Gilgal Christian Community and YOUR Church Plant can benefit greatly from Volunteers. it is surprising that in all of our churches there are students and people in general who are seeking the opportunity to obtain a documented record that they have engaged in volunteering.
One brother shared with me the story of how he spent many months unable to work while awaiting a visa application to be processed. When he was successful with his application he went to look for employment. At one organization they asked him what he had been doing all the time he had been waiting for his work visa. He was able to cite work he had done with Gilgal as a volunteer so the organization asked for a letter to confirm his volunteer history. He was rewarded with a really good job.
Another pastor was processing his application and Gilgal was asked by Canada Immigration if he was employed in the ministry. We reported that he had been a full time volunteer and cited what this job would normally pay. Immigration accepted that he had been engaged as a religious worker, fulfilling his visa requirement and moved him on to process of applying for permanent residency.
I cannot say that this will always be the case but it does point out the high value of volunteering.
Gilgal is a charity and, as such, can have co-op students, interns, and volunteers engaged with us AND we can give letters to them. You can give letters to your volunteers.
Every student, in high school, or in college, needs to put in volunteer hours so why not engage them in the work of the Lord and in programs that will benefit the community. Not only is it required of students to put in 40 hours volunteering but some high schools and also adult learning centres have co-op programs which will provide students for 3 to 6 weeks. It takes a little searching but there are people out there. You are welcome to use our charitable status for this and we would be glad to respond to anyone who contacts us.
